Construction Worker Falls Headfirst On Work Site, Suffers Life Threatening Injuries

by | Jul 19, 2019 | Construction Accidents

A construction worker working on an unfinished stairwell in Brooklyn suffered critical injuries after falling and hitting a concrete floor head first, according to authorities, as reported in The Daily News.

The victim was working in the stairwell shaftway and attempting to pry a loose plank of wood and lost his balance, falling nine feet into the basement. He was transported to Bellevue hospital from the four-story building in Greenpoint, located on Richardson Street near Union Ave.

A full stop-work order

Following the incident, the Department of Buildings (DOB) handed Avo Construction, LLC, the company in charge of the work, a full stop-work order, citing six violations, including an aggravated penalty in relation to failing to safeguard the worksite. In addition, the stairwell shaftway was not equipped with safety guardrails.

According to the DOB, a number of previous violations occurred at the same location. In October of 2018, a stop work order was issued after Avo Construction, LLC, failed to correct a prior issue.

NYC has been facing a spate of construction injuries

As we have been documenting on this blog, New York City has been dealing with a significant amount of construction-related injuries, both in Manhattan and the outer boroughs.  News articles that describe these occurrences rarely bother to describe the hardships that such injuries visit upon the injured workers and their families.

You and your loved ones deserve help in these circumstances

Construction workers and their loved ones have legal rights, particularly as they pertain to serious workplace injuries. An experienced construction accident attorney can help review your case and help you obtain the financial recovery to which you may be entitled.
