A Brooklyn construction worker suffered serious injuries after falling through the ceiling of a Bensonhurst school in early July, according to a recent article by ABC7NY. The accident occurred at JHS 227 on 16th Avenue in Bensonhurst on the morning of July 5th.
Firefighters and other emergency personnel arrived after reports of a roof collapse, only to discover the construction worker, who had fallen through.
Violations issued by the Department of Buildings
The construction worker was rushed to nearby Maimonides Medical Center with serious, although non-life-threatening, injuries.
Inspectors from the city’s Department of Buildings later determined that the workers were using heavy machinery on the school’s roof when a 10×10 foot section collapsed onto a fourth-floor classroom. The contractor, Civil Contracting Corp., was issued a violation for failing to safeguard the work site and for working outside of approved plans. In addition, a partial vacate order was issued for the classroom and the portion of the roof where the collapse occurred.
